Devlog 2: Learning to Pace Myself

Lessons Learned

I learned that I need to pace myself in developing this philosophy. There is so much I have already written and thought about that sometimes it makes me want to rush through it all. If I do that, it’ll come across like the ramblings of a mad man. (Even more than they do already.)

I need to slow down and think from the point of view of a new reader and introduce them slowly to the concepts I’m using. I think the Start Here page does that now.

I also realized that the framework is going to take some time to develop fully. I’ve only ever had a rough idea about how software development principles could be applied to philosophy development. I’m trying to figure out how to do iterative philosophy, how to do collaborative philosophy, and how to share my own philosophy with the world. Those are three different things and it will be a slow process to build this framework to its full potential.

Building this framework is going to be my most significant contribution, if I can build something that can really work. My own philosophical ideas that will be in my Hritos distribution aren’t going to be as important. I’ve realized that now but the thing is that I can’t build the framework without using it to share my philosophy. The act of using it, will help me figure out how to build it and what features need to be added. If and when others start contributing, that too will help me to figure out how to build this thing.

That’s the great thing about iterative development. I don’t have to build the entire thing in my head and consider every situation and problem that may arise and then figure out the solutions pre-emptively. I can just start with what I have thought and then refine it and build more and refine that and continue as long as needed.

The other great thing about iterative development is that it can go on forever. We never have to settle down with a final version that must pass the tests of time forever. We can just keep iterating and evolving our systems, just like life keeps evolving to keep up with changing environments.

Next Tasks

For now, I’m focused on making my first YouTube video. It’s good to take a break from the main project because it was starting to make my head hurt. For now I’m just writing some posts that I want to share.

Yesterday I wrote about the lessons I learned from reading The Horse, The Wheel & Language. I found that book really interesting and I had so many things I wanted to share but I had to cut many of them out because the article had gotten too long.

Once I get back to the main project, I’ll start by working on the Epistemology section of the kernel ItRaN. That will lead into Logic. But this time I won’t do it all in one go like I was doing so far. I’ll take time to write articles about the things I’ve already mentioned in the introductory sections of the Start Here page.

These articles will come together to form critical essays on subjects such as religion, spirituality, science, philosophy, nihilism, truth, reason etc. And these essays will form the core of the book Into The Void which will eventually emerge out of all this.

I’ll also be making more videos on YouTube. As the old saying goes:

“Slow and steady, enjoys the stroll.”

I don’t think I’ll come back to improve the Start Here page till I’m all the way done with ItRaN and eventually Hritos. I’m excited to see where this project takes me.
