Devlog 1: Gaining Confidence in My Project

·

It’s only been a week since I officially started building my philosophical system, but I’ve already developed a lot of clarity over my main argument and my confidence that I’m doing something valuable has grown.

Front Page

The front page of the website is done, for now. The good thing about an iterative system is that you never get caught in perfectionism. Just put something out there and improve it over time.

On the front page I’m focusing on my idea of developing philosophy as a software. I’ve decided to use this as the entry point for new readers. I don’t think anyone else is doing this and I hope it’ll arouse people’s interest. The rest of the front page is just links to other pages.

Start Here Page

I’ve begun work on the Start Here page and it is coming along nicely. Here I’d like to introduce my main argument to people and provide some clarification of the framework I’m using for developing philosophy like a software.

I’ve begun by anchoring my project in the timeline of western philosophy as a fork from Camus’ Absurdism. Camus, if he were alive, could say that my entire project is my personal revolt in the face of the absurd. I feel I’m taking Camus’ project to the logical next step. The revolt doesn’t have to be an endless personal journey. We can build systems to help everyone face the absurd.

A Pre-Emptive Strike

Then I discuss nihilism and try to pre-emptively tackle the most obvious objections people will raise against my use of this term via an FAQs section. Nihilism gets a really bad rap, but if you think about it from first principles, most of the objectionable attributes of nihilism shouldn’t really apply to it. I’ll write a longer essay on nihilism eventually and link it on the start here page as well.

My Main Argument

Then I’ve created a logic tree for my main argument. Each statement either follows from the previous statement or is a supporting or counter statement. I’ve already written over 8000 words in support of the argument, but now I have to refine it and create posts for each statement.

People will be able to click on any statement and go to a post describing my argument. As the argument evolves and I iterate further, all I have to do is write a new post and link it to the logic tree. The old post can be archived as an older version if someone wants to check that out.

Next Steps

Next, I have to work on the framework and provide a link to it on the start here page. I think I’ll also include links to long pieces on redefining some terms.

My philosophy is built around a change in perspective about a few things. Reason, truth and nihilism are the main ones that I need to explain right in the beginning. Understanding how I use these terms will help a new reader understand where I’m coming from. Otherwise, if they have retain old meanings of these terms, they’ll be likely to dismiss my arguments.

After that I begin work on ItRaN, the core kernel. Two components of the kernel will be logic and epistemology. After that, I think I will start developing all of my arguments in my distribution, Hritos, and take the ones that have a strong scientific backing and push them up into the core kernel.

Personal Update

After a long time, I’ve gotten into ‘the zone’ for my entire life. It’s easy to get in this flow state while working on a project, but right now I feel in a flow state throughout my day.

Mornings, I’ve been working out really well. Diet is under a realistic level of control. I’ve lost all interest in watching shows, movies, videos. And I go to sleep, satisfied and sleep well every night.

If anything is missing, it’s that I’ve stopped the hobbies of drawing, music, reading and even writing. I’d like to add those back to the day but I understand that right now I’m flowing really well in philosophy so I don’t want to artificially dam myself.

I think once I’m done with the logic and epistemology part of the core kernel, I’ll slow down and settle in for the long journey ahead.

P.S. I made up a joke about a nihilist philosopher and put it up on the start here page. Humor is important in my philosophy. It goes:

Wife says to philosopher, “What are you thinking about?
Philosopher says, “Nothing.

🤣🤣😂😁
